    • 8 Must-try food in Jeju Island
    • Located at the southernmost part of South Korea, Jeju is the country's largest island. Hailed as one of the New Seven Wonders of Nature in 2011, the 'Hawaii of Korea' is known for its beautiful beaches, it's lovely weather, and... FOOD. We give you eight of the best local foods in Jeju Island that you must try out on your next visit!1. Abalone / Jeonbok (전복)(Photo from The Purple Press)You can enjoy eating abalone in one of the best places in South Korea where fresh seafood is everywhere! This may be the most expensive food on our list but whether it's grilled abalone (전복구이/Jeonbok Gui) or abalone porridge (전복죽/Jeonbokjuk), you must have a taste when you're in the island! It's worth it!2. Black Pork / Heuk Dwaeji (흑돼지)(Photo from Hana Chrisanty Jioe's blog)Aside from their seafood, Black Pork BBQ is probably Jeju's most famous food. It's from the Jeju native domestic pig, Jeju Black Pig. Grilled to perfection on top of burning charcoal, wrapped in vegetables together with rice and your choice of side dish. Wow. You definitely should try this one as soon as you land in Jeju!3. Grilled Sea Bream / Okdom Gui (옥돔구이)(Photo from Instagram)Sea Bream was considered a luxury fish. During the early times, it was reserved for the King because it was so rare to catch for it lives under the deep sea. But thanks to developments in fishing, it has become a special product of Jeju. Usually caught around November to March, Sea Bream is rich in nutrients and is best served either grilled or as porridge.4. Gulfweed Soup / Momguk (몸국)(Photo from Jeju Tourism Organization's blog)One of the old-school dishes that Jeju has to offer, Gulfweed soup is made from meat broth and seaweed boiled for hours until the consistency becomes thick. 'Mom' means 'seaweed' in Jeju dialect and 'Guk' means 'soup' in Korean. This dish is probably the hardest one to find on our list, but since we are a bunch of awesome people here, we found a restaurant in Cheju (Jeju City), Jeju that serves traditional dishes, which includes Momguk! The name of the restaurant is Sinseol Oreum (신설오름). Don't forget to check it out!5. Pheasant / Kkwong (꿩)(Photo from HowToEatKorea)There are a lot of pheasants in Jeju, that's why dishes were made with it as the main ingredient. Pheasants are usually catched around winter time, where they are at their fattest. You can choose from Pheasant Hot Pot (KkwongSyabu / 꿩샤브), the one on the photo which is Pheasant Buckwheat Noodle Soup (KkwongMemilGuksu / 꿩메밀국수) or Pheasant Dumpling Soup (KkwongManduGuk / 꿩만두국)!6. Seafood Hot Pot / Haemul JeonGol (해물전골)(Photo from Jeju Shinhwa World)Seafood Hotpot can be found anywhere in South Korea, but of course, nothing beats the taste of freshly-caught seafood from the waters of Jeju Island. Clams, octopus, crab, abalone, etc. together with vegetables that are cooked in a hot pot at your dinner table is the perfect meal for a tiring day.7. Tangerine / Gamgyul (감귤)(Photo from Jeju Tourism Organization)Due to its warmer climate compared to mainland Korea, Jeju Island is the country's top producer of citrus fruits. Out of the 500 varieties that Jeju is growing, one of them is the tangerine! The ones grown out on the fields are usually harvested between November to February. You can even do it yourself because some farms in Jeju allow tourists to pick their own tangerines. You can ask your tour guide or the information desk of the place your staying in for any recommendations of the farms that offers this service.8. Korean sushi roll / Kimbap (김밥)(Photo from EarthTory)You might be wondering why I included Kimbap on this list. I mean, Kimbap is probably the national snack of Koreans and it can be found anywhere in the country.. Well, the reason for that is because Jeju Island is the home to THE Oneun Jeong Kimbap (오는정김밥). Located in Seogwipo, the restaurant's kimbap is famous throughout South Korea. There are six kinds of Kimbaps to choose from and it's better to call ahead of time to order because the lines and wait time are usually long. You can try out Kimbap anywhere, but this one is definitely a must-try!There is a longer list of other delicious food that you can and must eat when you are in Jeju Island, but since '8' is a magical number, we will have to stick to that. Have you tasted any food from Jeju that you highly recommend? Don't forget to comment them below!

    • Malaysia Quick Information
    • Located just south of Thailand on the Malay Peninsula, Malaysia is a tropical paradise in the heart of southeast Asia. It’s perhaps best known for its beaches, rainforests, and its wealth of natural beauty and impressive scenery. The capital, Kuala Lumpur houses the tallest twin towers in the world, while its islands are home to some of the most beautiful dive areas you can see. Whether you’re up for trekking and diving, or just want to relax on the beach and dine in the city, Malaysia is certainly worth a visit.Malaysia Quick InformationCurrency: Malaysian RinggitElectricity Socket: 240V AC electricity. Power outlets are three-prong sockets (type G). Be sure to pack a universal travel adaptor so you can still use all your electronic gadgets.Visa: Traveling to Malaysia is easy; for citizens of most countries you won’t need to apply for a visa beforehand. There are a handful of countries in Asia that require a visa for Malaysia, but most will not. For most of Europe and North America, you’ll receive a 90-day visa stamp upon arrival; certain other countries are only valid for 30-days. Just make sure your passport is valid for at least 6 months after your entry.Safety: Most parts of Malaysia are incredibly safe to travel in. The exception is Eastern Sabah, on the island of Borneo as there has been an increase in kidnappings on the coast in this region. Steering clear of that area, you should be able to have a safe and enjoyable stay in Malaysia. In big cities like Kuala Lumpur, pickpocketing and petty theft can be a problem, so keep your belongings close.Obviously, don’t travel without travel insurance! We would suggest checking out World Nomads, for travel insurance as they have the best coverage for active travelers.Language: The official language of Malaysia is Malay, which is spoken in the vast majority of the country. English is widely spoken as well, though, so it’s easy enough to get by without knowing how to speak Malay.Festivals and Celebrations: Malaysia and Singapore share a lot of the same festivals and traditions, but Malaysia definitely has its own flair. From brightly colored street festivals to sobering religious days, the country has a lot to celebrate with its own unique cultural heritage.Hari Raya Aidilfitri: This traditional Muslim holiday is celebrated at the end of Ramadan (in June). After a month of fasting, Malaysia’s Muslim population are ready to celebrate! The festival is marked by feasting, journeying from big cities back to small towns, and welcoming guests and friends into homes. You’ll find lots of traditional Malay dishes and decadent desserts around this time.Chinese New Year: There’s a big Chinese population in Malaysia, and they’re definitely not going to forget their heritage on this exciting holiday. Happening in January or February, this event turns the city red, and you’ll see everything from parades and festivals to street vendors, and performances in all the major cities.Vesak Day: An important holiday for the Buddhist community in Malaysia, Vesak Day occurs in May and celebrates the birth, enlightenment, and death of the Buddha. While this is definitely a more solemn holiday than the New Year, temples and shrines will still be brightly adorned, and other events like vegetarian food fairs and talks will be happening, too.Deepavali: Deepavali, or the Festival of Lights, celebrates the triumph of light over dark and good over evil in the Hindu tradition. During this celebration (usually in October or November), the Indian community in Malaysia makes the cities come alive with bright lights, vibrant colors, and high-energy festivities.Thaipusam: This Hindu festival in January is not for the faint of heart. As a tribute to Lord Subramanium, a procession of followers can be seen carrying spiked alters that actually pierce their bodies. Witnessing this is definitely a memorable experience, but might also make you feel a little squeamish!Transportation: The transport from one place to the next is fairly easy in Cambodia and is quite efficient. We recommend downloading the Skyscanner App and using BookAway or 12Go website to view bus, boat, and train schedules ahead of time.

    • ISCOVER PHILIPPINES: WHAT THE FIRST-TIME GOER SHOULD KNOW ABOUT THE HOT AIR BALLOON FIESTAJanuary 23, 2019 · by admin · in Destinations, Travel, Travel guides, Travel tips, Vacation“Balloon filled with hot air, free to fly anywhere; with perfect pressure, it goes in the search of its treasure: Fighting from its fear, somehow, managing to cheer; ignoring hesitation and trying to create its own imagination: Flying in the sky and still trying to reach at the top every play…!!!” –Sakshi One of the most anticipated events in San Fernando Pampanga is the hot air balloon festival 2019.While this yearly event has been canceled this year due to the lack of government commitment, there might be other aerial shows and events that could potentially happen outside Clark, Pampanga. As of this writing, the plan to host another aerial event might be a tenuous one but nonetheless, as we get more updates, we can certainly be hyped out about the event. You can read about the Hot Air Balloon Fiesta 2019’s cancellation here.Notwithstanding its cancellation, however, it is without a doubt that this yearly event draws spectators by the droves as they color the scenic February sky with various man-made crayons and scribbles in the form of uniquely shaped hot-air balloons. Apart from seeing the sky come to life, attendees can also participate in a myriad of aerial events that are sure to get their adrenaline pumping. Founded and established in 1994, this yearly hot air balloon fiesta continuous to grow more ambitious in their offerings of aerial events each year. What once started as an idea pitch to make and promote hot air ballooning as a feasible aviation sport in the country has now become a full-blown yearly venture. The Hot Air Balloon Fiesta will be a four-day event that happens every February. So, if you have been planning to see this event anytime soon, here are some of the things you must know: Arrive as early as possibleThe early bird catches the worm but in this case, the early attendee gets the best spot and can avoid long queues. Of course, queues are inevitable occurrences you would have to put up with—particularly for events as big as this one. However, you can mitigate the possibility of waiting too long to get in if you arrived as early as possible in the venue. Typically, the event starts as early as 6 AM so from there, you can gauge as to what time you wish to arrive. Buy your tickets in advance and arrive hours before the event is scheduled to open (you can already find a long queue by 3 AM). Gates open around 5 AM. Bring things that protect you from the heatWhile the weather in February can be unpredictable, it is best to come prepared. Considering that this is going to be a whole day event, it is best if you are adequately prepared for what the weather might bring. Monitoring the weather forecast for the date of the event will be useful in helping you determine which things to bring. Typically, on a scorching February day, you would need some protection from the sun. As the event is held in open fields, there are no shady shelters for which you can take refuge from the scourging heat of the February heat. In this regard, it is best if you brought your own tents with you. Organizers have allowed attendees to bring their own tents and food to the venue. If you intend to stay the entire day, expect it to get hot which would constrain you to find a place to stay under the heat. If you are not averse to walking around under the scorching heat just to take aesthetic aerial shots, you can opt to bring and apply sunblock as well.

    • TOP 5 FUN THINGS TO DO IN BORACAY ISLAND, PHILIPPINES: AN ULTIMATE TRAVEL GUIDE
    • 24MAYTOP 5 FUN THINGS TO DO IN BORACAY ISLAND, PHILIPPINES: AN ULTIMATE TRAVEL GUIDEBY AILEEN ADALID / 67 COMMENTSWhenever someone thinks of a vacation trip in the Philippines, the first destination that most likely comes to mind is Boracay, and this is especially because of its dreamy and world-renowned white sand beaches!– Things to Do in Boracay / May 24, 2019 –Of course it helps to note that there are a LOT of other islands in my home country that are not only beautiful but have also been recently gaining more recognition (e.g. Siargao, Batanes, and more!) Nevertheless, the fame of Boracay as one of the top islands in Asia remains. This is no wonder, of course, because it truly holds an unmistakable magnificence — a magnificence that various international travel agencies and publications have come to acknowledge by showering Boracay with various awards and accolades over the years.Today though, it’s true that given the continued rise of Boracay’s popularity, there have been several travelers who have been put off by it since they said that it was too ‘touristy’. I have actually first landed in this island at a time when it had already been in such a ‘commercialized’ state (as some would say); but I had a really, really, great time there! It then made me realize that for as long as you know what to expect, what to do, when to go, and where to go, you’ll end up enjoying the utmost beauty of Boracay! So give it a try!» WHAT YOU SHOULD EXPECT AND REMEMBERIt can get crowded so try to travel at off-peak season (somewhere in June to October)Not only is it cheaper (accommodation, airfare, etc.) but you will also be able to avoid the throng of people. You can’t avoid this kind of ‘touristy’ state because it really comes with very popular places (like come on, what can you expect?).However, I have to say that the high peak season also has a distinct charm to it because it’s the period wherein a lot of events and parties are abound! I actually remember how fun (and funny) it was to book a getaway trip to Boracay some time ago in March, only to see that almost all of the people I know in university were also taking a breather in the island — from that point on, it turned into a big ‘get-together’ for all of us!If you’re a foreigner though, don’t worry! Boracay is a great place to meet people. Besides, we Filipinos are known for being friendly and warm so don’t be shy in striking up a conversation with someone!Don’t confine yourself in the ‘White Beach’The center of it all is ‘White Beach’ — a 4-kilometer-long postcard-perfect stretch that is divided into three stations (Station 1, Station 2, and Station 3). Apart from the glorious view, this is also the place where all the action happens! From bars, hotels, restaurants, to shops and more! So it naturally happens that this is the most crowded part of the island; fortunately however, there are other white sand beaches in Boracay that you can explore which are above all, less packed. (I will discuss below what these beaches are!)Contrary to popular belief, it’s NOT expensive to stay in BoracayThere are a lot of hotels and inns that won’t break your travel budget. There are even various restaurants scattered around the island that can offer you hearty yet ridiculously affordable meals; so it can surely be a backpacker’s haven! (I will also be tackling this topic below).Once you keep these expectations and tips on check, it’s time to plan the exciting things that you must do in this glorious island. As based from my previous experiences, below are my recommended top 5 things to do in Boracay that you should absolutely consider!..Best Tours in Boracay?Come and check out this list of the top activities to do in Boracay which features the best things to do and tours in the island and more!..THINGS TO DO IN BORACAY1.Go beach-hopping to enjoy the island’s white beaches and turquoise waters!..Report this adAs I have mentioned above, DON’T enclose yourself completely in White Beach especially if you want to escape the horde of people. Of course it holds that iconic splendor that you’ve seen in photos but if you’re looking for more tranquility, you can still achieve it in the rest of the island. You see, the great thing about Boracay is that there are a lot of other areas that you can go to, and they are equally picturesque as that of the prominent White Beach. And the best thing about it? There are 13 of them and they are not too far away from one another because Boracay is a small island that is only approximately 7 kilometers long.★ Puka Shell BeachNamed after ‘Puka‘ shells (shells of cone snails that are bead-like objects that is normally used in making beach anklets, bracelets, and necklaces) this beach is the next crowd favorite in Boracay. Truth be told, it’s simple surroundings is similar as that of White Beach back when it wasn’t so cramped yet. (Simply catch a ride with a tricycle and you’re bound to reach this place in just 20 minutes from White Beach).★ Ilig-iligan BeachWith the same white sand feature, this is a great spot for snorkeling and it has some scenic limestone islets that you can explore. I believe that there are two of these islets: one is deep and the other, shallow. To reach this beach, there are two ways: either join an island-hopping trip that has a stopover here or just simply walk inland from the White Beach.Lapus-Lapus BeachTo the best of my knowledge, this beautiful stretch is privately-owned by the Fairways & Bluewater Newcoast Resort and that it is only open to their guests. It really has that feel of seclusion to it, so if you want to visit this part, you have to book into the resort.★ Bulabog BeachIf you’re into beach sports like kiteboarding, parasailing, and windsurfing then this is the beach for you! You will instantly feel the vibrant vibe due to these adrenaline-pumped water activities done by local and tourists alike, so if you’re for this kind of thing, make sure to book a hotel in this part of the island.Lagutan BeachThis is actually one of the places where boats dock in Boracay. Though it may not be as scenic as the others, photographers may find the charm of this place frame-worthy.Tulubhan BeachThere are some local villages that live by this beach and they typically go to the sea to look for seafood like fish, urchins, and more. With decent resorts here and there, Tulubhan can be a nice place to stay in if you’re looking for a quiet getaway.★ Tambisaan BeachTambisaan is popular for its coral gardens and reefs that are just near the shore. For this, you can simply bring your gear with you and then take your own sweet time snorkeling in these waters.★ Crocodile BeachThis is a small nearby island at the southeast part of Boracay. Often a trip that comes along in prearranged tours, it’s a favorite destination for underwater activities given the abundant and unspoiled marine life in this area. What’s more is that there are also small canyons where you can see some sea snakes.Manoc-Manoc BeachA lot of locals play here so it can be a bit crowded, but despite the low-key attractiveness of the landscape, it can be a quaint change of scene.Cagban BeachMuch like Lagutan, this is one of the boat docks in the island (it’s actually the main port), but somewhere near this area, you can find private spots to relax in under the sun.★ Diniwid BeachThis is close to White Beach’s Station 1 and it is full of backpacker-friendly resorts. What I like about this place (that is only 200m long) are the stunning cliff side views! To add, there is also a crowd favorite here called Spider House and it is a great place to hangout. Otherwise, you can lounge in the water or lie down on a floating wooden piece that they have set up.Balinghai BeachYet another small private beach but this time, owned by Balinghai Resort and it has a lovely view.
